ENGIE Impact congratulates Kraft Heinz on its clean energy initiatives and its continued work toward achieving Net Zero carbon emissions
New York, NY – April 4, 2024 –ENGIE Impact, a leader in sustainability transformation solutions, today announced that its efforts with Kraft Heinz to create techno-economic decarbonization roadmaps has helped the food and beverage company be selected for award negotiations to receive up to $170 million from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstration to support the implementation of clean energy projects at 10 of the company’s U.S. plants. This investment will fund part of “The Delicious Decarbonization Through Integrated Electrification and Energy Storage” project and represents a significant stride toward the company’s commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Through the project, Kraft Heinz aims to slash annual emissions by over 99% from 2022 levels across the 10 plants, setting a precedent for sustainable manufacturing practices in the food and beverage industry and across Kraft Heinz’s global operations. The investment will help fund the implementation of various cutting-edge technologies, including heat pumps, electric heaters, and solar photovoltaic systems, among others.
Manufacturing decarbonization is economically viable with 5 proven technologies
ENGIE Impact's expertise played a pivotal role in guiding Kraft Heinz through the intricate process of defining advanced technological solutions and implementing sustainable practices to help secure federal funding. Starting from a long standing relationship providing global data and energy services, ENGIE Impact utilized advanced digital tools and engineering insights to conduct comprehensive assessments across the 10 selected sites, providing invaluable guidance for efficient implementation efforts and future scalability. This helped build the necessary foundation for the extensive application, interview, and assessment process conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy.
We congratulate Kraft Heinz on this achievement and applaud their commitment to reducing carbon emissions across their operations. Our work together on the grant application required strong collaboration and commitment to leverage Kraft Heinz’s deep facility expertise along with ENGIE Impact’s holistic energy management and technology experience. This allowed our teams to conduct a deep dive into their operational data, internal governance and complex processes in order to analyze and identify optimal decarbonization pathways.
Jason Bell, Managing Director of Strategy & Implementation, ENGIE Impact
"Our Net Zero Factory solution provided the needed holistic view of the facilities to understand all possible scenarios, and the best possible investment decisions, in order to achieve Kraft Heinz’s emissions-reduction goals,” said Jason Bell, Managing Director of Strategy & Implementation at ENGIE Impact.
Kraft Heinz is poised to achieve remarkable energy savings and emissions reductions, setting a new standard for environmentally conscious manufacturing practices. The project is also estimated to create approximately 500 construction jobs across the 10 plant sites and will serve as a blueprint for replicable clean energy solutions within Kraft Heinz's global operations. This groundbreaking collaboration exemplifies the power of partnerships in driving meaningful change towards a greener, more sustainable future.
