Hi, I'm Csilla Kohalmi-Monfils, director of sustainability solutions at ENGIE Impact. In this video on The Fundamentals of Corporate Decarbonization series, we are going to explore the importance of establishing a phased plan on the road to decarbonization. While there is an urgency to decarbonize, not everything can happen at once. To get started on the right foot, organizations need a phased plan that outlines actionable steps, sometimes one step at a time.

Sometimes the first step is to have discussions around aligning decarbonization efforts with the strategy of the core business. It will be important to prioritize the different actions your organization can take and which ones to start with. For instance, it may be best to find opportunities that are more directly aligned with existing corporate strategies and goals. This will make your projects feel less like a cultural and operational shift from the current state. Once the initial assessments, robust data, science-aligned targets, and governance are in place, you are ready to begin developing your strategic decarbonization roadmap.

The roadmap will cover how to integrate the right technologies, unlock financing and break down organizational silos. It will also serve as the manual for the implementation work moving forward. It will be a holistic action plan that lays out a clear vision and the pathways and milestones needed to achieve the decarbonization targets. The roadmap is informed by the vision and strategy and is specific to an organization's unique requirements. To successfully develop a decarbonization roadmap, organizations must analyze the following inputs, the gaps between current and future state of carbon emissions, data-rich scenarios with relevant business cases, cost structures and their complexities, policy dimensions and community implications of the proposed solutions, and finally the financial appetite of the business. This process will involve significant time and resources from a wide range of stakeholders, but it is crucial for the overall success of your organization.

I hope this video was helpful as you start the process of establishing your own roadmap. For more on the fundamentals of decarbonization, explore the other videos in this series. Thanks for watching.
